Another blow for Qatar, UAE as MSCI again declines to grant emerging market status
The two Gulf countries have been anxious anticipating the upgrade from “frontier” market status.
Both have failed five times now to secure the higher rating on the MSCI Emerging Markets Index, but will remain on the list for review next year.
No reasons for the decision were given in the statement posted on Reuters, but MSCI has previously disqualified  Qatar for its strict limits on foreign ownership.
