Al Jazeera reportedly seeking IPO next year
Al Jazeera has a “strong desire” to go for an initial public offering and list the company on the Qatar Exchange, according to Reuters.
The news agency, citing Qatar Exchange chief operating officer Olivier Gueris, reports that Al Jazeera is currently awaiting approval from the Ministry of Business and Trade and the Qatar Central Bank.
“Al Jazeera would like to list next year subject to regulatory approvals and market conditions,” Reuters quotes Gueris as saying.
According to the article, the move is not strictly Al Jazeera’s idea, but rather, part of a broader government effort to divest stakes in a number of state-run entities, adding that Qatar Airways could be the first high-profile company to offer shares to the public.Â
