Qatar’s Amir has restructured the board of the Free Zones Authority, keeping its top leadership in place while introducing new members.
Sheikh Amir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has issued Amiri Decree No. 17 of 2026 on Wednesday, reconstituting the authority’s Board of Directors, according to a statement from the Amiri Diwan.
The decree retains Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani as chairman, with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Thani continuing as vice chairman, maintaining continuity at the top of the body overseeing Qatar’s free zones.
The new board includes Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Jamal, Hamad Ali Al Khater, Sheikh Ali bin Al Waleed Al Thani, Saleh Majid Al Khulaifi, Ahmed Saeed Al Amoudi, and Abdulla Ali Al Kuwari. Board members will serve four-year terms, renewable.
The changes combine returning and newly appointed members as part of efforts to reinforce oversight and support the authority’s role in attracting investment and expanding non-energy sectors.
The decree also allows the prime minister to appoint additional members with relevant expertise, leaving room for further adjustments if required.
The Free Zones Authority manages key economic zones focused on trade, logistics, and industry and plays a central role in Qatar’s push to diversify its economy.
The decision takes effect immediately and will be published in the official gazette.
