Qatari officials held talks on Thursday with the EU’s Gulf envoy in Doha on security, defence cooperation and diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions.
Qatari officials held a series of high-level meetings with the European Union’s Special Representative for the Gulf region, Luigi Di Maio, in Doha on Thursday, focusing on regional security, defence cooperation, and diplomatic efforts to contain escalating tensions.
Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi met Di Maio during his visit to Qatar, where the two reviewed the ongoing military escalation and its serious implications for regional and global security.
They also discussed ways to resolve disputes through peaceful means.
Al Khulaifi reaffirmed Qatar’s support for efforts aimed at an immediate halt to escalation and a return to dialogue, stressing the importance of prioritising reason and diplomacy to contain the crisis and enhance regional stability.
In a separate meeting, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari discussed the latest developments with the EU envoy, including the impact of the escalation and ways to strengthen joint cooperation under current conditions, particularly in defence and security.
Al Ansari expressed Qatar’s appreciation for its partnership with the European Union, especially in light of ongoing regional challenges.
Di Maio, for his part, expressed solidarity with Qatar following repeated violations of its sovereignty, stressing the importance of reinforcing security and stability across the region.
Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani, also met the EU envoy, where discussions focused on the latest security developments and avenues for defence cooperation and joint coordination.
In a separate meeting, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi also met the EU envoy to discuss the impact of regional tensions on global energy markets and the security of energy supplies.
Al-Kaabi reaffirmed Qatar’s role as a reliable energy supplier and stressed the importance of strengthening long-term cooperation with the European Union.
