France condemned Iranian missile and drone attacks on Qatar, reaffirming its defence commitments and “unwavering solidarity” with Doha.
France has strongly condemned the recent Iranian missile and drone attacks on Qatar, expressing its stance “in the strongest possible terms” and reaffirming solidarity with Doha.
In a statement, the French Embassy in Qatar highlighted the strategic partnership between the two countries and reiterated France’s commitment to assisting in the defence of Qatar’s security and territorial integrity.
“We are bound by a defence agreement with Qatar, and France, a trusted partner, honours its commitments in this difficult period,” the statement said.
French Ambassador to Qatar Arnaud Pescheux said: “Amid the unacceptable attacks targeting them, I wish to reaffirm to our Qatari friends France’s unwavering solidarity and assure them of our full commitment to stand by their side.”
“I would also like to express our deep gratitude for the remarkable effectiveness of the military means deployed in support of our collective security,” he added.
France has already deployed Rafale fighter jets, advanced air defence systems and airborne radar capabilities to the region, and has pledged to maintain these deployments for as long as necessary.
French President Emmanuel Macron has also ordered aircraft from a French aircraft carrier to move towards the Mediterranean as part of broader deterrence and support efforts.
Macron also criticised the wider escalation, saying France “cannot accept” the ongoing U.S. and Israeli military offensive against Iran and warning that such actions risk serious consequences for regional peace and security.
The French president also called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.
“The ongoing escalation is dangerous for all. It must stop,” Macron said in a post on X.
Macron also spoke with Qatar’s Amir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to express France’s support for the country.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot also held a separate call with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
