The international exhibition kicked off in Doha this week, featuring 130+ global delegations, eight international pavilions, and cutting-edge maritime defence technologies.
The ninth edition of the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2026) officially opened on Monday at the Qatar National Convention Centre, under the patronage of Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The opening ceremony began with Qatar’s national anthem and was attended by the Amir, the Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, senior military officials, global maritime defence representatives, security sector leaders, and key decision-makers from around the world.
The ceremony featured a video presentation highlighting the capabilities of the Qatar Armed Forces, as well as their humanitarian missions and relief efforts in countries across the globe.
Running until January 22, this year’s exhibition is the largest in DIMDEX’s history since its launch in 2008.
At the opening ceremony, Staff Major General Abdullah Al Sulaiti highlighted the theme of DIMDEX 2026, ‘A Global Hub for Defence Innovations: Invest in Possibilities to Shape a Secure Tomorrow,’ emphasising the exhibition’s role in fostering innovation and promoting new ideas in maritime defence.
Al Sulaiti said the latest edition marks a significant expansion of the event, featuring more exhibitors, international pavilions, and advanced defence technologies.
Following the opening ceremony, Sheikh Tamim toured the exhibition, visiting Qatar’s national pavilion and eight international pavilions, and meeting representatives from more than 130 global delegations.
Commenting on the exhibition, Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, wished the conference success.
“DIMDEX is a leading global platform for maritime defence, gaining growing momentum through strategic partnerships and major investments that drive innovation and the development of advanced defence and security technologies in support of international stability and peace, and I wish the accompanying conference every success,” the Amir said.
DIMDEX 2026 will showcase a wide range of defence technologies, including radar systems, marine engines and maritime security solutions from Qatar and participating countries. It aims to explore the intersection between defence diplomacy and maritime security, providing a platform for dialogue and the exchange of expertise to enhance stability at sea.
A key feature of DIMDEX is the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC), held under the theme “Defence Diplomacy and Maritime Security Challenges.”
Nations represented include the United States, Italy, Türkiye, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain and France, and over the next four days, the event will bring together naval commanders, military and government officials, and defence industry leaders from around the world.
