Hakan’s latest visit to Qatar came following previous ones on April 27 and February 2 as part of the two countries’ strategic relations.
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, met in Doha on Wednesday, where discussions focused on the Gaza Strip and Syria.
“Both sides discussed advancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries, developments in the Gaza Strip, the occupied Palestinian territories, and Syria, as well as a variety of topics of shared interest,” Qatar’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
The top Qatari and Turkish officials also stressed the need to accelerate “regional and global efforts to end the brutal war on the Gaza Strip” and “ensure the unhindered and sustainable flow of humanitarian aid”.
“[Sheikh Mohammed] further underscored the State of Qatar’s full support for all good-faith efforts aimed at settling the Palestinian cause through peaceful means and enforcing the two-state solution,” the statement added.
Hakan’s latest visit to Qatar came following previous ones on April 27 and February 2 as part of the two countries’ strategic relations and cooperation in regional issues.
Israel’s ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip has been among the topics on the top of Fidan’s agenda throughout his previous visits.
Qatar and Türkiye have held discussions since October 7, 2023, over efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, with both countries engaging with Hamas officials.
The Gulf state, along with the United States and Egypt, has also been a central mediator between Hamas and Israel.
The mediation succeeded in reaching a week-long truce in 2023 and a ceasefire deal in January, which Israel broke on March 18 under its refusal to withdraw from the Gaza Strip and halt the brutal war.
Israel has killed more than 61,700 Palestinians, mainly women and children, over the past 22 months while causing a humanitarian catastrophe in the blockaded territory.
Meanwhile, Syria’s developments have been a key priority for Qatar and Türkiye, particularly since the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime on December 8, 2024. The two countries have been playing active roles in rebuilding the country and restoring its key infrastructure.
High Strategic Committee meeting
Earlier, diplomatic sources told Anadolu Agency that the latest meeting between Sheikh Mohammed and Fidan was expected to discuss preparations for the 11th session of the High Strategic Committee meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Doha this year.
The Committee’s annual meeting has been taking place since 2015 under the co-chairmanship of Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The meetings resulted in the signing of 107 agreements covering various areas, including trade and investment, according to Anadolu.
