The decision was made out of caution, the embassy noted, in light of escalating Iran-Israel hostilities tensions in the region.
The United States Embassy in Qatar has temporarily restricted access to Al Udeid Air Base and urged increased vigilance among its personnel, citing ongoing regional hostilities. In a security alert issued this week, the embassy advised U.S. citizens in Qatar to take similar precautions.
The alert recommends avoiding large gatherings, areas with heavy police presence, and locations associated with the United States, while monitoring local media and following the guidance of Qatari authorities.
The move comes “out of an abundance of caution,” the embassy said, as tensions escalate across the region.
The advisory follows Israel’s attack on Iran on June 13, which triggered a series of retaliatory strikes between the two nations.
According to Iran’s Ministry of Health, Israeli missiles have killed more than 240 people. Iran’s response, missile and drone strikes, has reportedly resulted in at least 24 Israeli deaths.
On Monday, Qatar and 19 other Arab and Islamic nations issued a joint statement calling for an immediate end to Israeli aggression and urging diplomatic solutions to regional disputes, including concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme.
“Diplomacy, dialogue, and respect for the principles of good neighbourliness, in line with international law and the UN Charter, are the only effective means of resolving regional crises,” the statement read.
The foreign ministers of the 20 nations also condemned Israel’s actions and reaffirmed their rejection of continued escalation.
