The Singaporean embassy in Doha is exploring land-evacuations from Qatar to Saudi Arabia for its citizens in the Gulf state.
Singapore’s embassy in Qatar is exploring land evacuation routes for its citizens in Qatar via Saudi Arabia.
In a statement, the embassy said it is considering a seven-hour bus journey from Doha to Riyadh, where citizens could catch connecting commercial flights to Singapore.
Another possible route involves a longer bus trip from Doha to Jeddah, where direct commercial flights to Singapore remain operational.
“Given that the situation is still developing, there may also be a need to explore a 17-hour bus ride to Jeddah, where commercial flights to Singapore are still operating,” the embassy added.
The land transport and group transfer from Qatar to Saudi Arabia would be facilitated and financed by the embassy.
Those interested are required to fill a form by March 5. However, the embassy emphasized that completing the form does not guarantee participation in the evacuation.
“Please note that the form is to survey intent only, and is not a confirmation that the exercise would be mounted,” it added.
Singaporean nationals wishing to take part must book and arrange their own commercial flights from Saudi Arabia before departing Qatar. They must also obtain an e-visa for Saudi Arabia, ensure travel insurance coverage, and carry sufficient funds in case of an extended stay.
“Singaporeans who depart Qatar would need to know that it is unclear when they can return to Qatar at this point in time, as the airspace remains closed,” the embassy said.
