Both sides stressed the need to maintain “close coordination to advance shared interests and Arab causes”.
Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Amman on Wednesday, where the two leaders discussed the bilateral relations as well as the developments in the Gaza Strip.
Jordan’s King personally welcomed Sheikh Tamim at Marka Airport, with the traditional Red Motorcade later escorting them to Basman Palace.
Sheikh Tamim was accompanied by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
The Red Motorcade, a royal tradition dating back to Jordan’s founding, is typically reserved for official ceremonies and features horses, red military vehicles, and motorcycles.
Sheikh Tamim said on X that he held “constructive discussions” with the Jordanian king, which dealt with efforts to “strengthen joint Arab action to confront the dangers threatening the region”.
“We emphasised the need to coordinate efforts and strengthen joint Arab action to confront the dangers threatening the region[…]foremost among them ending the suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people by finding a peaceful and comprehensive solution to their just cause,” Sheikh Tamim said.
King Abdullah separately said on X that Qatar and Jordan are “united by brotherhood” as he welcomed Sheikh Tamim.
“Welcome, my brother, Your Highness Sheikh Tamim, among your family in Jordan,” the Jordanian leader said.
“We are united by brotherhood and a shared commitment to strengthening the relations between our two brotherly countries and peoples,” he added.
The two leaders, during their meeting, reiterated their commitment to expanding their “cooperation across various fields, particularly economic and investment-related ones”, according to the Royal Hashemite Court.
Both sides also stressed the need to maintain “close coordination to advance shared interests and Arab causes”.
Sheikh Tamim and King Abdullah also renewed their condemnations of Israel’s expansion of its ground operations in Gaza with the aim of forcibly displacing Palestinians from their land.
The Jordanian leader then granted Sheikh Tamim the Al-Hussein bin Ali Medal, the highest civilian honour in the Kingdom in recognition of Doha and Amman’s relations.
Sheikh Tamim’s visit comes two days after King Abdullah travelled to Doha for the emergency Arab-Islamic Summit on Monday, which focused on last week’s Israel attack on Qatar.
The attack on September 9 targeted a residential building housing members of Hamas’s political office.
The bombing killed five Hamas members and 22-year-old Corporal Bader Al-Humaidi Al-Dosari, a member of Qatar’s Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya). Qatar’s Amir told the summit in Doha that 18 others were wounded in what he denounced as a “terrorist attack”.
Jordan’s king had sent Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to Doha a day after the attack as a show of solidarity.
During the recently concluded emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, King Abdullah II pointed out that the strike on Doha was a “living proof” of Israel’s unlimited threats.
“Our response must be clear, decisive, and, above all, deterring,” he said.
Qatar’s Amir, at the opening of the summit, described the attack on his country as “blatant, treacherous and cowardly”.
“This aggression is in reality blatant, treacherous and cowardly. It is impossible to deal with such a degree of malice and treachery,” Sheikh Tamim said in his first public remarks since the strike.
