What started out as a desert safari adventure ended tragically for a Qatari couple last week after their vehicle was involved in a rollover accident in Saudi Arabia.
According to media reports, a relative reported the duo missing last Wednesday after they failed to return from a trip to the Rub’ Al Khali (Empty Quarter), one of the world’s largest and most arid deserts.
After mounting an extensive search for the couple, and by tracking the car’s GPS coordinates based on the last mobile phone call they made, Saudi patrol officers found the vehicle in the middle of the Empty Quarter, some 300km south of the Batha Port, Qatar Tribune reports.
Near the SUV, they found the wife’s body, said Col. Khalid bin Khalifa Alarqoubi, spokesman for the border guards. A helicopter search later that day turned up the husband’s body, some 10km from the accident.
The names of the victims and ages have not been released.
Does anyone know more? Thoughts?
