Sheikh Mohammed affirmed, during the call, the necessity of stopping Iran’s unjustified aggressions against Qatar and the countries of the region.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a phone call from Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Monday that during the call, the two officials discussed the latest developments in the region’s ongoing military escalation.
The two sides discussed “the necessity of stopping Iran’s unjustified aggressions against Qatar and the countries of the region,” the MoFA said in a statement.
Qatar has been subjected to multiple attacks by Iran ever since the U.S.-Israel-Iran war broke out on February 28.
The officials also urged on the need of “warning in this context of the consequences of the irresponsible targeting of vital infrastructure, particularly that related to water and food and energy facilities”, the statement added.
Sheikh Mohammed also stressed the need to enhance coordination and intensify joint efforts, urging a return to the negotiating table. He emphasised prioritising the language of reason and wisdom to contain the crisis.
The statement added that these efforts should “ensure global energy security, freedom of navigation, environmental safety, and preserve regional stability”.
This was the second phone call from UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, following an earlier conversation on March 11, in which Cooper urged de-escalation, restraint, and a return to diplomatic negotiations to prevent further chaos.
