Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and Türkiye’s Minister of Foreign Affairs exchanged condolences and stressed diplomacy.
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani held a phone call with Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to exchange condolences following a deadly military helicopter crash in Qatar’s territorial waters and to discuss the latest developments in the war between Iran, the United States and Israel.
During the call, Sheikh Mohammed and Fidan expressed condolences over the deaths of Qatar Armed Forces personnel, members of the joint Qatar–Türkiye forces, and Turkish civilians.
Authorities confirmed all seven people were on board were killed, including four Qataris and three Turkish nationals.
The helicopter went down on Sunday due to a reported technical malfunction while on a routine mission.
The victims from the Qatar Armed Forces were identified as Captain (Pilot) Mubarak Salem Daway Al-Marri, Captain (Pilot) Saeed Nasser Samekh, Sergeant Fahad Hadi Ghanem Al-Khayarin, and Corporal Mohammed Maher Mohammed.
The Turkish dead comprise Major (Air Defense) Sinan Taştekin and two Aselsan technicians, Suleiman Cemra Kahraman and Ismail Anas Can.
Search operations were launched following the crash, as officials worked to account for all those on board.
Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as other high ranking Qatari officials, attended funeral prayers at the Imam Abdul Wahhab Mosque before the victims were laid to rest at the Mesaimeer Cemetery.
The two ministers also reviewed ongoing military escalations in the region and their implications for regional and global security.
They emphasized the importance of de-escalation, coordination, and renewed diplomatic efforts to resolve disputes peacefully.
According to a statement by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two “underscored the importance of intensifying coordination and joint efforts to immediately halt escalatory actions, return to the negotiating table, and prioritise dialogue and wisdom to contain the crisis.”
Sheikh Mohammed and Fidan also highlighted the need to protect global energy supplies, ensure freedom of navigation, and maintain environmental and regional stability.
