Earthna Summit 2025 seeks to inspire actionable strategies for a resilient future, blending innovation with time-tested wisdom to address urgent environmental concerns.
The Earthna Centre for a Sustainable Future (Earthna), part of Qatar Foundation, has announced its second annual Earthna Summit, set to take place on April 22–23, 2025. The summit will be hosted across three venues—the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Bin Jelmood Museum, and Barahat Msheireb—under the theme “Building Our Legacy: Sustainability, Innovation, and Traditional Knowledge.”
Bringing together global policymakers, academics, business leaders, and innovators, the summit will focus on addressing environmental challenges, particularly in hot and arid climates, while emphasising Qatar’s unique approach to integrating cultural heritage with modern sustainability practices. Over 1,000 participants from more than 100 countries will engage in sessions and workshops designed to foster dialogue, share actionable solutions, and shape global sustainability policies.
Dr. Gonzalo Castro de la Mata, Executive Director of Earthna, highlighted the summit’s importance: “Tackling the urgent sustainability challenges of today requires bold collaboration and innovative perspectives. By drawing from the past and embracing new technologies, we can create a sustainable legacy for future generations.”
A key focus of the summit will be the INTBAU Qatar Conference, which will explore the role of traditional architecture in modern urban development, evaluating how place-specific design and resource efficiency can offer solutions to current environmental issues.
Engineer Ahmad Mohammed Al Sada, Assistant Undersecretary for Climate Change Affairs at Qatar’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, emphasized Qatar’s leadership in sustainability, saying, “The Earthna Summit underscores Qatar’s commitment to bridging its rich heritage with innovative climate solutions, both locally and internationally.”
The summit will also feature the announcement of the inaugural Earthna Prize, awarding $1 million to four projects that incorporate traditional knowledge to address challenges in water management, food security, and urban sustainability. The winners were selected from over 400 global submissions.
Building on the success of the 2023 edition, the Earthna Village at Barahat Msheireb will return as an interactive hub showcasing Qatar Foundation’s sustainability projects and engaging the community through exhibits and bilingual Agora Sessions. The village will be divided into zones focused on Sustainable Urbanism, Sustainable Living, and Eco-Learning.
Prominent speakers at the event include Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, UNCCD Executive Secretary Ibrahim Thiaw, artist Thijs Biersteker, and local sustainability experts such as His Excellency Fahad Bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah and Dr Tareq Al-Ansari.
The summit is supported by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, along with international partners like Woqod, Msheireb Properties, IRENA, and UNCCD.
