Doha denounced Thursday’s strikes on Kuwait as a violation of sovereignty and a breach of international law.
Qatar has strongly condemned a missile and drone attack targeting Kuwait, describing it as a “flagrant violation” of Kuwaiti sovereignty and international law.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Doha “strongly condemns the targeting of the sisterly State of Kuwait with missiles and drones and considers it a flagrant violation of its sovereignty and a clear breach of international law”.
The ministry stressed “the necessity of sparing the region the consequences of unjustified attacks” and called for efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore regional and international security and stability.
It also reaffirmed Qatar’s “full solidarity with the State of Kuwait and its support for all measures it takes to preserve its sovereignty and security”.
Kuwait’s army said its air defence systems had intercepted hostile missile and drone threats on Thursday, although authorities did not specify where the projectiles originated.
The Kuwaiti military said explosions heard across parts of the country were the result of interception operations and urged residents to follow official safety instructions.
The incident followed U.S. strikes earlier on Thursday on what Washington said was an Iranian drone operation threatening U.S. forces and commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran confirmed that a U.S. strike had targeted an area near Bandar Abbas airport in the early hours of Thursday and said it had subsequently targeted a U.S. air base, though it did not specify the location.
