Qatar Airways is planning to launch a new route to Birmingham in the UK, as well as two other as yet unnamed UK airports, reports Travel Weekly.
Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker says the new route will begin after the airline takes delivery of its new fleet of Boeing 787s.
Travel Weekly quotes unnamed Qatar Airways sources as saying the routes under consideration are Edinburgh, and a possible return to London’s Gatwick airport. Qatar withdrew from Gatwick in May 2011.
Travel Weekly also reports that the airline could be the first carrier to operate a 787 into London’s Heathrow airport. Qatar Airways plans to launch its 787 Heathrow flight towards the end of September, providing there are no further delivery delays from Boeing.
Will the new routes make a difference to your travel plans? Are you looking forward to the arrival of the 787?
