Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has sent a message to Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, expressing heartfelt condolences and solidarity amid recent developments in the Middle East and military actions that have impacted Qatar’s security and stability.
In his message, President Mirziyoyev conveyed his “deepest sympathies regarding the painful events unfolding in the region and the impact on the brotherly State of Qatar.”
This comes after Qatar entered its fourth consecutive day of Iranian retaliatory strikes on neighbouring Gulf states, launched on Saturday in response to ongoing U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran.
Explosions were heard over Doha late Tuesday as Qatar’s air defence systems intercepted projectiles in the sky.
According to the latest figures from Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, 16 injuries have been recorded since the attacks began on Saturday, with limited material damage reported.
Qatar Airways has extended the suspension of its flight operations as Qatari airspace remains closed for a fourth consecutive day.
In his message, President Mirziyoyev stressed that Uzbekistan “stands firmly alongside Qatar and its people during these challenging and sensitive circumstances”.
Reaffirming Uzbekistan’s position, President Mirziyoyev strongly condemned any actions that undermine the sovereignty, territorial integrity, security and stability of states.
He reiterated Uzbekistan’s commitment to resolving conflicts through peaceful means, in line with international law, and through constructive dialogue and diplomacy.
The Uzbek leader also expressed confidence in the “wisdom and leadership of the Amir of Qatar,” stating his belief that Qatar will overcome the current challenges with determination, resilience and dignity.
President Mirziyoyev concluded by wishing a swift recovery to the injured and expressing his hopes for lasting peace, security and stability for the people of Qatar.
