Qatar’s Public Works Authority has announced a five-day closure of the busy “Medical City” intersection near C-Ring Road tonight.
Located next to Hamad Medical City, the junction is at the crossroads of Ahmad Bin Ali St. and Mohamed Bin Thani St.
It sits between Hamad signal and TV Roundabout going north/south, and is between Sports and Civil Defense roundabouts in the perpendicular direction.
In a statement, Ashghal said the closure was for maintenance and re-pavement of the intersection. It will reopen the morning of Wednesday, July 13.
Right turns open
During the closure, drivers approaching the intersection will not be able to go straight through the signal from any direction.
Instead, they will be detoured into a right turn.
Ashghal explained:
“Road users coming from TV Roundabout are advised to turn right to Sports Roundabout, and those coming from Sports Roundabout are advised to turn right to Al Shura Council (Hamad) Intersection, while those coming from Al Shura Council Intersection are advised to turn right towards the Civil Defense Roundabout, and those coming from the Civil Defense Roundabout are advised to turn right towards TV Roundabout.
The closures come amid Eid Al Fitr and government holidays, when many are on vacation and commuter traffic is reduced.
Meanwhile, work continues on overhauling the nearby Civil Defense roundabout into a signalized intersection.
Ashghal is now in phase two of this construction, which means one lane in both directions on Al Istiqlal St. and Mohammed bin Thani St. will be closed until mid-September.
