An Egyptian man living in Qatar has been sentenced to two months in jail for stealing 1,080 water cartons that were due to be destroyed.

The initial ruling had also ordered him deported, although that part of the sentence was later withdrawn, the Peninsula newspaper reports.

It isn’t clear why the Municipality ordered the destruction of some 13,000 cartons of water that his company had imported to Qatar. The convicted man apparently stopped to distribute the water, rather than driving it to the dumping grounds, thereby failing to comply with his orders.
