The unified news application aims to collect official news and information from the Gulf countries into a single platform.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has unveiled a unified news app on a trial basis, spearheaded by the Qatar News Agency (QNA), in a move aimed at deepening media cooperation across the region.
Announced during the 28th GCC Ministers of Information meeting in Kuwait, the app is designed to serve as a central hub for official news from member states, available in both Arabic and English.
Equipped with cutting-edge artificial intelligence, the platform offers users real-time access to multimedia content, live TV and radio streams, newspaper coverage, and an AI-powered virtual assistant.
QNA Director-General Ahmed bin Saeed Al Rumaihi hailed the app as a milestone for Gulf media unity, saying it positions the region to play a stronger role on the global media stage. He added that the initiative is a leap forward in aligning regional news delivery with emerging technologies and audience expectations.
GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi lauded the new platform as a “groundbreaking initiative” that exemplifies the unity and cooperative spirit among Gulf nations. He stressed that the app offers both citizens and global audiences reliable, real-time news directly from official sources.
Kuwait’s Minister of Information and Culture, Abdulrahman Al Mutairi, echoed the praise, calling the launch a landmark achievement in aligning media strategies across the Gulf. He highlighted the app’s role in showcasing the GCC’s commitment to innovation and its agility in keeping pace with fast-evolving technologies.
Al Mutairi also extended his appreciation to Qatar for leading the charge, and specifically acknowledged Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Media Corporation, for his key role in driving regional media cooperation.
The app, still in its pilot phase, marks a bold step toward a more integrated, tech-driven media landscape in the Gulf—one that aims to connect audiences with credible news in real time while promoting a unified regional voice.
