Sisi also held a phone call with Sheikh Tamim on Sunday evening, during which he expressed Egypt’s solidarity with Qatar.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi delivered a verbal message to Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the regional developments, with a particular focus on Iran’s attacks on the Gulf state.
Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty delivered Sisi’s message to Sheikh Tamim during their meeting at the Lusail Palace on Sunday, according to a statement by the Amiri Diwan. The senior Egyptian official’s visit to Qatar marked the first stop of his Gulf tour.
The message was also related to “efforts being made to reduce tensions and prioritise diplomatic solutions in a manner that contributes to preserving regional security and stability,” the statement added.
During the meeting, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s “full support and solidarity” with Qatar “in confronting the condemnable and unjustified attacks targeting its sovereignty and security”.
“The two sides reviewed the close fraternal relations between the two sisterly countries and ways to further develop them, in addition to discussing the latest regional developments,” the Amiri Diwan said.
Sisi also held a phone call with Sheikh Tamim on Sunday evening, where he expressed Egypt’s solidarity with Qatar.
“He emphasised Egypt’s readiness to provide various forms of support and assistance,” according to the Amiri Diwan.
“[Sisi] stressed the importance of intensifying efforts during the current stage, and strengthening joint Arab action to consolidate security and stability in the region,” the statement added.
Abdelatty also met Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, on the same day.
“The meeting addressed the developments of the military escalation in the region and its serious repercussions on regional and international security and stability, along with ways to resolve all disputes peacefully,” Qatar’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
Both sides also discussed strengthening Arab coordination to confront current challenges. The two parties also talked about improving Arab cooperation to meet ongoing challenges.
Sheikh Mohammed also reiterated his condemnation of Iran’s attacks on Qatar, stressing “they are unacceptable under any pretext or justification”.
“Qatar has always been keen to stay away from regional conflicts and has sought to facilitate dialogue between the Iranian side and the international community,” Sheikh Mohammed noted, as cited by the Qatari foreign ministry’s statement.
Sheikh Mohammed further warned against Iran’s “irresponsible targeting of vital infrastructure, particularly the facilities related to water, food, and energy”.
The Qatari and Egyptian foreign ministers also called for de-escalation and a return to negotiations “to avoid further chaos”.
