Hours of rain in Doha today have residents feeling gleeful but also wary of road conditions, which seem to be deteriorating due to the wet weather.
On Twitter, motorists have been cautioning each other about what they’re experiencing, as the government tries to sop up:
Potholes appear in the roads overnight. We drive on them every day and a little rain dissolves them? #doha #qatar

It's fun out there on the roads in #Doha today. Rain and no drainage giving the usual swimming pools!

Road bullies also continue to abound:
Be careful, all! MT @Greeeker. If reckless driving during rains were an olympic sport, Qatar would've finished first, second and third

Also on Twitter, the Ministry of Interior has issued some driving advice. Tips include:
- Run the A/C to defog windows before heading out;
- Avoid driving on flooded streets so that your car doesn’t lose control;
- Keep a wider distance between your car and the vehicle in front of you; and
- Give the road your utmost concentration and attention to avoid being hit from behind (no cell phones).
Meanwhile, the roads aren’t the only thing struggling with the rain. It appears that leaks have sprung up at Landmark Mall, and elsewhere:
I have lost count of the roof leaks @landmark. There is water everywhere! #RainInTheDesert

According to Steff Gaulter, senior meteorologist at Al Jazeera English, the rain will soon taper off, but more persistent showers are forecast to replace it:
Grey persistent rain will clear #Doha in next few hours…but it might not stay dry. Likely to see some thunderstorms later on 🙂

And here’s what the Qatar Meteorology Department has predicted today:
Sat11:Cloudy to partly cloudy with scattered rain maybe thundery at times. Wind:NW-N3-12reaches 22KT. Sea:5-7 falling3-5/6FT.Doha temp:16/19

Despite road conditions, the novelty of rain in the desert hasn’t worn off for many Qatar residents, or kept them indoors:
