Clinching the biggest title of her career, Carla Suarez Navarro defeated Jelena Ostapenko 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 last night at the finals of the Qatar Total Open.
The 27-year-old Spaniard walked away with a falcon-shaped trophy and $518,500, while her Latvian competitor was awarded some $259,300.

Speaking to reporters, Suarez Navarro hailed Ostapenko, saying:
“You know, she plays really fast and is tough opponent. She plays with no pressure. She plays really, really good.”
For her part, Ostapenko said: “Maybe, because she’s almost 28 and I am still 18. I hope more finals to come for me.”
Later on, Suarez and Italian Sara Errani were defeated by sisters Chan Yung-Jan and Chan Hao-Ching for the doubles title:
