A ban on the import and sale of tungsten lightbulbs in Qatar goes into effect today and will initially apply to 75 and 100 watt bulbs, Qatar General Electricity & Qatar Corp. (Kahramaa) said.

In a statement, the utilities provider said that tungsten (incandescent) bulbs use much more power than energy-saving LED ones, as well as give off more heat.
