The two leaders shared their deep concerns about the crisis in Gaza and agreed their teams would work together to help achieve long lasting peace between Palestine and Israel through a two-state solution.
Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham discussed the situation in Gaza, strengthen bilateral defence cooperation and advance a two-state solution during a phone call, the British government said on Monday.
Burnham offered condolences to the Amir following the passing of Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, praising his leadership and contribution to strengthening Qatar-UK relations.
“The Prime Minister began by offering his heartfelt condolences to His Highness after the passing of his father, Sheikh Hamad. He spoke of his father’s respected leadership and all he did to strengthen relationships between the UK and Qatar,” the UK Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement on Monday.
The Amir congratulated Burnham on assuming office and wished him success in his new role, while highlighting the longstanding Qatar-UK ties and their importance in advancing shared interests.
The two sides also discussed the latest regional developments, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip, as well as ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and promote security in the Middle East, the Amiri Diwan said in a statement on Sunday.

According to a statement from the UK Prime Minister’s Office, Burnham highlighted the successful deployment of the Joint Typhoon Squadron in supporting Qatar’s defence during the conflict and said he was keen to further strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries.
The statement added that Burnham also reiterated the need to secure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine following “Russia’s illegal invasion”
In a statement, the Amiri Diwan said the two leaders highlighted the importance of continued dialogue and diplomatic solutions, as well as ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz to safeguard regional and global security.
The UK Prime Minister’s Office said Burnham thanked the Amir for his continued mediation efforts and efforts to restore peace in the region.
