Jordan’s Al Nashama and Morocco’s Atlas Lions are in for a fierce battle for the FIFA Arab Cup glory on Thursday following an intense Semi-Finals round on Monday.
The Semi-Finals first saw Morocco triumph over the United Arab Emirates at the Khalifa International Stadium with a 3-0 score.
Forward player Karim El Berkaoui scored the opener goal at minute 28, followed by a goal by midfielder Achraf El Mahdioui at minute 83, giving little chances for the UAE to turn around their fate at the game.
Forward Abderrazzaq Hamdallah then sealed Morocco’s spot with the third goal at 90+2, moments before the final whistle went off. The colour red conquered the stands as the stadium roared with the chants of Morocco’s fans.
The moment was only reminiscent of Morocco’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 historic semi-final run, when they became the first ever African and Arab team to ever reach the stage in the tournament.
The anticipation among fans started building up following the match as they awaited to find out whether Jordan or Saudi Arabia will face Morocco in the final.
The Al Bayt Stadium was later a witness to the major match that saw 62,825 attendees. Saudi fans were optimistic over winning, whereas Jordanian fans’ spirits were high despite the absence of forward Yazan Al-Naimat.
Al-Naimat only watched the game from the stands while recovering from an injury sustained during the previous Quarter-Final match against Iraq. Jordanian fans have also collectively chanted Al-Naimat’s name at minute 11, showing their support for the prominent player.
The first half of the match saw various attempts at scoring from both sides, only to end with no goals. This only provided Al Nashama and the Green Falcons with the motivation to give it their all in the second half.
Jordan’s Nizar Al Rashdan then set the game’s tone with his header at minute 66, which was also the winning goal against Saudi Arabia. Jordanian fans, who are among the top three FIFA Arab Cup ticket buyers, instantly went into celebration mode the moment the whistle went off.
Jordan and Morocco, both Arab teams that qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026, will be battling it out at the Lusail Stadium on Thursday in what seems to be a heated game.
