Qatar’s men’s team is set to face Australia on Wednesday in an attempt to snag first place at the inaugural FIP Asia Padel Cup 2025.
Host nation Qatar powered into the semi-finals of the inaugural FIP Asia Padel Cup 2025, delivering an impressive 3–0 sweep over Pakistan in Tuesday’s men’s tournament.
With the win, Qatar now sits on four points in Group B, sharing the top spot with Australia’s men’s padel team. On Wednesday, the two group leaders will go head‑to‑head to decide first place.
The victory comes after Qatar also edged the Kuwait men’s padel team 2‑1 in a group match on Monday.
Meanwhile, also in Group A, Iran’s team defeated Lebanon 3‑0, while the UAE team thrashed Jordan 2‑1. Both Iran and the UAE now have four points and will meet tomorrow to determine the group winner.
Things are also heating up on the women’s side of the tournament. In Group A, Japan’s women’s padel team and Iran’s women’s padel team advanced with 3‑0 victories: Japan over the UAE, while Iran took the win against Saudi Arabia’s team.
Japan and Iran will clash on Wednesday for the top spot in their group.
In Group B, the women’s padel team from Australia swept the women’s padel team from Thailand 3-0, and team Indonesia beat the Philippines 3-0.
Indonesia now has four points and can clinch Group B with a win over Thailand; Australia and Thailand both have three points and are still in contention, with Australia poised to play the Philippines next.
The semi-finals for both divisions will be played on Thursday, and the finals will be played on Friday, ending the first-ever edition of this continental padel event in Qatar.
The FIP Asia Padel Cup in Doha comes at a time when the sports sector continues to grow in the country.
Data from the International Padel Federation show that since 2021, Qatari players have made significant strides, with eight athletes ranking in the World’s Top 300, and the nation ranked first in Asia for growth.
The local development of clubs and courts, backed by national federation investment, sets a strong home foundation for Qatar as the padel boom accelerates.
