Qatar has delivered new aid to Damascus to support Syria’s emergency and rescue services with equipment, vehicles, and training through a partnership with UNDP.
A new batch of Qatari aid has arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus, provided by the Ministry of Interior and the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), in coordination with the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The shipment supports the efforts of Syria’s Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management and the Syrian Civil Defence (White Helmets) in firefighting, rescue, and disaster response operations.
According to Qatar News Agency, the aid includes vehicles, machinery, and advanced logistical equipment for search and rescue operations, as well as modern tools and technologies to enhance the preparedness of Syrian emergency teams and strengthen their field capabilities.
In comments to QNA, Raed Al Saleh, Syria’s Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, thanked Qatar for its continued support, saying it reflects the “depth of fraternal relations” between the two countries. He said the assistance will help ease the burdens on Syrian society and bolster the capacities of national institutions working in rescue and emergency fields.
Al Saleh added that the aid comes at a critical time as Syria works to rebuild infrastructure and create conditions for the safe and voluntary return of displaced people and refugees.
Qatar’s Chargé d’Affaires in Damascus, Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, described the initiative as an extension of the ongoing partnership between Qatar and Syria’s emergency authorities. He reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to continuing humanitarian and logistical support for the Syrian people.
He noted that the first shipments have already arrived, with more expected in the coming days, following specialised training programmes for Syrian personnel held in Qatar on firefighting, emergency response, and earthquake management.
Mounir Moustafa, Director of the White Helmets, also praised Qatar’s contribution, saying the equipment, machinery, and training provided will significantly enhance the efficiency of Syrian rescue teams and improve their ability to respond to emergencies.
