The deceased and the injured will be transported to Doha on Sunday on a Qatari aircraft, according to the embassy.
Three Qatari diplomats have died in a tragic car accident in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh while performing their duties, Qatar’s Embassy in Egypt announced on Sunday morning.
“The Embassy of the State of Qatar in the Arab Republic of Egypt expresses its deep sorrow and grief over the passing of three members of the Amiri Diwan as a result of a tragic traffic accident in the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, while they were carrying out their official duties,” the embassy said in a statement.
The embassy named the victims as Sheikh Saud bin Thamer Al Thani, Abdullah Ghanim Al-Khayareen and Hassan Jaber Al-Jaber.
Two others were injured during the accident including Abdullah Issa Al-Kuwari and Mohammed Abdelaziz Al-Boainin, who received medical treatment at the Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital.
The deceased and the injured will be transported to Doha on Sunday on a Qatari aircraft, according to the embassy.
“The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Cairo extends its sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the families of the deceased, praying to Almighty God to bestow upon them His vast mercy, grant them eternal rest in His paradise, and bless the injured with a speedy recovery,” the statement added.
The Qatari embassy also expressed its gratitude to Egypt for its “cooperation, concern, prompt follow-up on the incident and providing the necessary assistance”.
A Qatari delegation had travelled to Sharm El-Sheikh last week to participate in an intensive round of indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel.
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani led the delegation in Egypt. The talks, also mediated by Egypt, Turkiye and the United States, resulted in an agreement over the first phase of a ceasefire in Gaza on October 9.
