Qatar participated in several meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA with Gaza ceasefire as the primary issue.
Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani described the Gaza ceasefire as the only motive for his participation in a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and Arab Islamic leaders on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly.
“The only reason we are here is to stop the war and bring the hostages back,” Qatar’s Amir said ahead of the meeting on Tuesday, shortly after he addressed the world leaders at the main session.
The meeting was co-convened by Qatar’s Amir and U.S. President Donald Trump, according to the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office, and was attended by leaders from Türkiye, Pakistan, Indonesia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan.

“The situation is very bad there [in Gaza],” Qatar’s Amir said in his brief remarks in front of the media, addressing Trump. “We count on you and your leadership to end this war and help the people of Gaza.”
In response, Trump complimented Sheikh Tamim’s speech at the General Assembly as “great”, adding that he had watched it. He also termed the meeting, which eventually lasted more than an hour, as the most important one.
“I don’t want to insult anybody,” Trump said, claiming that he had 32 meetings on the sidelines. “But this is the one that is very important to me because we are going to end something that probably should have never started.”
Trump later told the media that the “very successful” meeting could “work something out on Gaza”.
Qatar’s Amir vowed to “do everything we can” to stop the war in Gaza and release the hostages – an issue which was consistent across other meetings that the Qatari delegation attended on the sidelines.
On Monday, Sheikh Tamim joined Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani at a meeting co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia to discuss a two-state solution.
France and five other European nations formally recognised Palestinian statehood during the meeting.
Qatar was represented by Minister of State Mohammed Al-Khulaifi at a separate meeting of heads of state and government on “the day after” in Gaza.
“Dr Al-Khulaifi stressed that the issue of the day after must go beyond mere reconstruction and serve as a genuine starting point for a just, comprehensive, and lasting settlement of the Palestinian question,” Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Al-Khulaifi also participated in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)’s meeting on the ongoing situation in Afghanistan.

Similarly, the Minister of State for International Cooperation, Maryam Al-Misnad, met the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, among various other sessions and dialogues ranging from digital cooperation to humanitarian aid.
“The meeting focused on cooperation between Qatar and UNRWA, discussing the current conditions of Palestinian refugees and addressing the challenges facing the agency,” MoFA said of the meeting with Lazzarini.
Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the developments in the occupied Palestinian territories were part of the discussions when Qatar’s PM-FM, Sheikh Mohammed, met Iranian FM Abbas Aragchi. According to Qatar’s MoFA, the two counterparts also discussed issues of joint concern and the bilateral relationship.
Qatar also participated in other high-level meetings consisting of like-minded Global South countries, ministers from the GCC and France, as well as a gathering to discuss the responsibility to protect.
