World leaders and regional states strongly condemned Israel’s strike on Hamas leaders in Doha, voicing solidarity with Qatar and denouncing the attack as a blatant violation of sovereignty, international law, and regional stability.
Israel launched an attack on Hamas’s leadership in Qatar on Tuesday, raising uncertainty over whether the strike would derail Doha’s role as a key mediator in efforts to end the Gaza war.
Here’s how world leaders and states responded to the attack.
Qatar
Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official spokesperson at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Majed Al Ansari said that Qatar “strongly condemns the cowardly Israeli attack that targeted residential buildings housing several members of the Political Bureau of Hamas in the Qatari capital, Doha”.
“This criminal assault constitutes a blatant violation of all international laws and norms, and poses a serious threat to the security and safety of Qataris and residents in Qatar,” Al Ansari added.
“The Ministry affirms that the security forces, civil defense, and relevant authorities immediately began addressing the incident and taking necessary measures to contain its repercussions and ensure the safety of the residents and surrounding areas.”
Jordan
Jordan’s King Abdullah II held a phone call with Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in which he stressed Jordan’s firm rejection of any act that harms Qatar’s safety, leadership, and sovereignty.
In a post on X, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi said Jordan condemns “in the strongest terms the cowardly Israeli aggression against the sisterly State of Qatar as a flagrant violation of international law, a serious threat to the security of the sisterly Qatari people and the residents in Qatar, and an extension of the brutal Israeli aggression that threatens the security and stability of the region”.
“Our security is one, and we stand with our brothers in Qatar and stand in absolute solidarity with them in any steps they take against this aggression and to protect their security, stability, and sovereignty.”
“Israel will continue to escalate its aggression, its brutal wars, and its violations of international law, and its threats to regional and international security and peace, unless the international community, particularly the Security Council, takes the necessary steps to deter it and curb its aggression,” the Jordanian FM posted.
Kuwait
In an official statement, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned and denounced the “brutal aggression faced by the sisterly State of Qatar at the hands of the unjust Israeli forces.”
“The Ministry emphasizes that this brutal Israeli aggression constitutes a flagrant violation of all international laws and, a serious threat to the security and stability of the region, and a direct undermining of international peace and security.”
“It reaffirms the State of Kuwait’s position calling for the necessity of the Security Council to assume its responsibilities in safeguarding international peace and security and taking serious and effective steps to halt the systematic Israeli aggression against the countries of the region.”
UAE
The UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan released a statement on the foreign ministry’s official website in condemnation of Israel’s attack on the Hamas bureau in Doha.
He also took to X to post “our full solidarity with dear Qatar.”
The Emirati DPM and FM condemned in the strongest terms “the blatant and cowardly Israeli attack on the sisterly State of Qatar, stressing that this reckless attack constitutes a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, a dangerous assault on international law and the UN Charter, and an irresponsible escalation that threatens regional and international security and stability.”
The UAE expressed its “full solidarity with the sisterly State of Qatar and its unwavering support for everything that would protect its security and the safety of its citizens and residents.”
Sheikh Abdullah also stressed the need for an immediate end to the military escalation, warning that the continuation of such escalatory actions would undermine regional security and drag the region down dangerous paths that would have disastrous repercussions for international peace and security.
He further “called on the international community, especially the Security Council, to shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities to deter Israel and halt these barbaric Israeli attacks, stressing that the continuation of this aggressive approach reflects reckless behavior that will push the region towards further tension and escalation, undermining the chances of achieving security and stability.”
Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan’s President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev released a statement through his office in condemnation of Israel’s attack on the Doha office.
“President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev condemned the military action taken by the Israeli authorities in Doha, Qatar. Whatever the motives behind these actions are unacceptable, as it violates the sovereignty of the State of Qatar and contravenes the principles of international law.”
Saudi Arabia
In an official statement by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom confirmed that its Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud held a phone call with Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
During the call, he affirmed the “Kingdom’s full support for the sisterly State of Qatar, and its condemnation of the blatant Israeli attack on the sisterly State of Qatar, which constitutes a criminal act and a flagrant violation of international laws and norms.”
Lebanon
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun expressed Lebanon’s “solidarity with sisterly Qatar and supports it in condemning this criminal aggression.”
According to statements published on Al Jazeera, the Lebanese president said “Israeli aggression on Doha demonstrates Israel’s determination to undermine efforts to achieve regional stability and security.”
Algeria
Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement in condemnation and denunciation of the “brutal Israeli aggression that targeted the Qatari capital.”
“We express our full and unwavering solidarity with the sisterly State of Qatar in the face of this exceptional circumstance,” the statement added.
Oman
The Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Sultanate’s solidarity with Qatar, its leadership, government, people, and its strong condemnation and denunciation of the “attack launched by Israel on Qatari territory, as well as the crimes of political assassinations and treachery it perpetrates, in flagrant violation of law and a blatant breach of sovereignty.”
Oman also said the attack was a “dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region and distances it from the path of peace.
“Oman supports all measures taken by the State of Qatar in confronting this provocative aggression.”
Global, Western powers
French President Emmanuel Macron denounced the attack as unacceptable under any circumstances.
Macron called the strikes “unacceptable, whatever the reason may be,” voicing solidarity with Qatar and its Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
“War must under no circumstances spread in the region,” he wrote on X.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the attack as a grave breach of sovereignty.
“The Israeli strikes are a flagrant violation of sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Qatar. All parties must work towards achieving a permanent ceasefire, not destroying it,” Guterres told reporters.
Pope Leo voiced alarm over the Israeli strike in Doha. “There’s some really serious news right now: Israel’s attack on some Hamas leaders in Qatar. The entire situation is very serious,” Leo said outside the papal summer residence of Castel Gandolfo, as quoted by ANSA news agency.
