Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani is in Egypt for talks as mediators present Hamas with a new ceasefire proposal amid Israel war on Gaza.
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, headed to Egypt on Monday to meet mediators as talks continue on a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.
Qatar-based outlet Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported that mediators from Cairo and Doha had presented Hamas with “a new framework for an agreement” in the presence of leaders from several Palestinian factions.
The outlet also confirmed that Sheikh Mohammed will meet a Hamas delegation in Egypt. Hamas is reportedly expected to respond to the proposal on Monday.
According to Israeli media, the meetings will take place in El-Alamein, Egypt.
Previous talks in July focused on a 60-day truce proposed by Qatar and Egypt but ended in stalemate on July 25. The main sticking point remains the withdrawal map for Israeli occupation forces from Gaza.
Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip, described by rights groups as a genocide, has killed more than 61,700 Palestinians since October 2023, with thousands still trapped under the rubble.
Gaza has also been driven into famine, with deaths from malnutrition mounting as Israel continues to block adequate humanitarian aid. More than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed at aid distribution sites, widely labelled “death traps”.
Amnesty International has described Israel’s actions as “a deliberate campaign of starvation”, accusing it of “systematically destroying the health, wellbeing, and social fabric of Palestinian life”.
