The 31-year-old is expected to be a crucial figure in Qatar SC’s resurgence effort following the switch from Al Wakrah.
Palestine national team skipper Musab Al-Battat has completed a move to Doha Bank Stars League outlet Qatar Sports Club.
The 31-year-old right debuted in Qatar SC’s season opener on Saturday, which saw The Kings down defending league champions Al Sadd in a five-goal thriller.
He had joined fellow Qatari side Al Wakrah in January earlier this year after voiding his contract with Jordan’s Al-Faisaly.
Registration constraints meant Al-Battat’s mere appearances for the Blue Waves came in the AFC Champions League Two in the two round of 16 fixtures against Saudi Arabia’s Al Taawoun in February.
Al-Battat was not eligible to be on Al Wakrah’s squad for all nine league games since his signing, according to Transfermarkt, and also did not make it to the club’s bench in the 4-1 loss against Umm Salal in the Amir Cup’s round of 16.
On the contrary, Al-Battat will be expected to rack up regular appearances at his new club. The experienced campaigner will prove crucial if the Bartolome Marquez Lopez-led side is to better the last season’s 10th-place finish, which saw them escape relegation play-off by just two points.
Al-Battat’s latest move sees him join fellow countryman, midfielder Ataa Jaber, at the Suheim bin Hamad Stadium-based outlet. It takes the tally of players who have either represented or are eligible to represent Palestine, currently playing in the Qatar Stars League, to 12.
Al Gharafa is home to brothers Yaser Hamed, a regular starter for Palestine, and Jamal Hamed — eligible but yet to declare — in addition to young goalkeeper Hamad Kahiout.
While Al Rayyan boast the centre-back pairing of Mohammed Saleh and Ameed Mahajneh, Umm Salal recently signed forward Mahmoud Wadi to join Palestine-eligible goalkeeper Jihad Mohammed Hadeb.
Winger Tamer Seyam made his debut off the bench in Al Shamal’s 2-0 win against Al Ahli, while Hassan Aladin, who was threatened by Israeli authorities over his allegiances with the national team and stint in Qatar, is still with Al Arabi SC.
Promotion winners Al Sailiya’s 19-year-old goalkeeper Ahmad Hammouda is also eligible to represent Palestine, per Transfermarkt.
Capped 69 times since his debut in 2013, Al-Battat captained his side at the AFC Asian Cup last year, which saw them play knockouts for the first time before going down to hosts and eventual winners Qatar.
The same lot also narrowly missed out on the fourth round of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers after a historic campaign. He is also likely to lead the side at the FIFA Arab Cup set to be held in Qatar later this year in December.
The 31-year-old was voted as the best right back of the Asian Cup by sports statistics and live score platform Sofascore.
Similarly, he had joined Hassan Al-Haydos, the Qatari skipper, during the opening ceremony to deliver the tournament oath, in a display of solidarity amidst Israel’s relentless onslaught in Gaza.
“We have a message to the world that we can deliver on the world stage. Palestine, like any other country, has the right to participate in any tournament and be present anywhere,” Al-Battat had said on the eve of the tournament.
