Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has condemned Israel’s strike on Doha as “state terrorism”, accusing Netanyahu of destabilising the region and vowing legal and political action in response.
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, has slammed Israel’s “state terrorism” against his country.
“The Israeli attack that took place today on Qatari soil can only be described as state terrorism practiced by someone like [Benjamin] Netanyahu,” Sheikh Mohammed told reporters at the Diwan Annex in Msheireb during the first press conference since Tuesday’s attack.
His remarks came after Israel struck a residential building in Doha housing Hamas negotiators, killing five lower-ranking members of the group, including Humam, the son of chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya.
Corporal Bader al-Humaidi al-Dosari, a member of Qatar’s Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), was also killed.
Netanyahu confirmed that Israel had “independently” carried out the attack, though reports indicated that US President Donald Trump gave him the green light.
The strike drew widespread condemnation and outrage in Qatar, which plays a central role as mediator between Hamas and Israel.
Sheikh Mohammed said the assault sent a message “that there is a rogue actor in this region, engaging in ongoing political chaos and violating the sovereignty of nations”.
“Netanyahu himself has declared that he will reshape the Middle East. Is this message also implying that he will reshape the Gulf?” he asked.
The Qatari premier added that the strike marked “a pivotal moment where there must be a response from the entire region to such barbaric actions.”
The attack came while the Hamas delegation was reviewing the latest ceasefire proposal presented by Trump. The plan, accepted by Israel, followed Hamas’s agreement to a previous draft deal submitted by mediators on August 18, which Israel never responded to.
Sheikh Mohammed accused Israel of deliberately obstructing peace efforts.
“Does the world need a clearer message than this? Who is closing the door to peace? Does the international community still need additional proof? Who is the real bully in this region?” he said.
He also announced that Qatar had formed a legal team to take action in response to the attack, stressing that the Gulf state reserves the right to respond.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, condemned the strike in a phone call with Trump, describing it as “a reckless criminal attack”.
