The $250,000 project helps improve services at the Jerusalem hospital, which is in urgent need of support.
The flagship Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has implemented a project to purchase and upgrade medical equipment at the Al-Makassed Islamic Charitable Hospital in Jerusalem, Occupied Palestinian Territories.
The $250,000 project, in cooperation with Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), saw the first batch of medical equipment delivered this week.
Dr Sohail Miaadi, project officer, and Jihad Al-Mousa, Head of Biomedical Engineering Department, emphasised the importance of obtaining the medical equipment, especially for the adult and pediatric intensive care departments, which has a capacity of 88 beds.
Dr Miaadi stressed that the donations would ensure high-quality health services at the hospital in light of a shortage in essential equipment that is urgently needed in the occupied territory.
In addition to the delivered equipment, which included 20 syringe pumps, QRCS is also scheduled to deliver five artificial ventilators for the pediatric surgery and intensive care unit, two microscopes for the central lab and anatomy department, as well as two ultrasound machines.
The donations will enhance services at the hospital and accelerate diagnosis and treatment. Some 8,500 per year patients are expected to benefit from the aid, including 160 in pediatric surgery, 160 in intensive care, 3,600 in central labs, and 4,500 in other departments.

Hospitals in the occupied territories have been dealt a blow by decades of illegal Israeli occupation.
Most recently, the already-dwindling medical sector has been struck with the global COVID-19 pandemic amid ongoing Israeli attacks.
In one such incident in August, Israeli forces suffocated over 25 patients and medical staff by firing tear gas at civilians by the Hebron Governmental Hospital.
