The Syrian Observatory For Human Rights (SOHR) documented 31 Israeli attacks since the beginning of the year.
Qatar has strongly condemned Israel’s air strikes on the southern Syrian province of Daraa on Monday, which killed four people and wounded at least 19 others, including children.
In a statement on Tuesday, Qatar’s foreign ministry described the attacks “as a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and international law”.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges the international community to take immediate action to hold Israel accountable, ensure compliance with international laws, and put an end to its repeated attacks on Syrian territory to prevent further escalation in the region,” the statement said.
Israel carried out the attacks on Monday evening, claiming to target “command centres and military sites containing weapons and military vehicles belonging” to the deposed Bashar Al-Assad regime.
It also claimed that the new army is trying to make the military tools “reusable.”
Dr. Nizar Rashdan, the director of Daraa’s General Hospital, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the air strikes were carried out in residential areas.
Syria’s foreign ministry also issued a statement condemning the “deliberate attacks” on its territories.
“These deliberate attacks, carried out without any deterrent, reveal Israel’s complete disregard for international laws and norms, under pretexts that no longer hold any credibility,” the statement said.
Repeated attacks by Israel
Israel has carried out numerous attacks on Syria especially since it launched the brutal war in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023. Israel carried out the latest such attack on the Homs province on Tuesday, with no casualties reported.
The Syrian Observatory For Human Rights (SOHR) documented 31 Israeli attacks since the beginning of the year that targeted military positions and strategic facilities. At least 12 people have been killed in the attacks, according to SOHR.
Israeli forces also advanced into the western countryside of Daraa as well as the middle countryside of Al-Quneitra this week, but later withdrew from the areas.
Syria’s interim government has filed three complaints at the United Nations Security Council against Israel since assuming power after Assad’s fall last December, AP reported.
Syrian authorities filed the latest such complaint on March 3, where they highlighted Israel’s “hostile intentions and goal of undermining the security and stability of Syria and establishing a new occupation on Syrian territory as a fait accompli”.
