Qatar’s condemnation comes amid a fragile ceasefire and ongoing diplomatic efforts to contain the broader conflict between U.S. and Iran.
Qatar has strongly condemned Iran’s repeated attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain, describing them as a “blatant violation” of both countries’ sovereignty and a “flagrant breach of international law”.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged all parties to pursue de-escalation to restore regional and international stability, stressing the need to shield the region from the consequences of “unjustified attacks.”
The ministry reaffirmed Qatar’s “full solidarity” with Kuwait and Bahrain, backing all measures taken by the two countries to preserve their sovereignty and security.
Kuwait’s military, on Saturday, said its air defences were responding to incoming missile and drone attacks, without identifying their origin.
The armed forces later clarified that any explosions heard across the country were the result of interceptions by air defence systems.
Bahrain also activated air raid sirens and urged residents to seek shelter. “Citizens and residents are urged to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place,” the Interior Ministry said.
U.S. Central Command said American forces had earlier intercepted four Iranian drones heading toward the Strait of Hormuz, describing them as a threat to maritime traffic through one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.
Iran then launched seven ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain, CENTCOM said, of which six were intercepted and one failed to reach its target.
U.S. forces subsequently struck Iranian coastal radar sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island, which Washington said were being used to support maritime attacks.
The latest strikes follow a drone attack on Kuwait International Airport on June 3 that killed one person, wounded dozens and damaged a passenger terminal.
Iran claimed responsibility for that attack as part of coordinated strikes on U.S. military assets in Kuwait and Bahrain, including facilities linked to the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain.
