After a long summer, Qatar’s “rainy” season is expected to begin next week, ushering in lower temperatures, local forecasters have said.

The rain is expected to begin around Oct. 16 and signifies the beginning of the “Wasmi” season.

This means the country will witness increased rainfall in the coming two months, which help certain plants grow, the Qatar Meteorology Department (MET) said in a statement.

By the end of October, temperatures should range between 30C and 35C during the day, forecasters said.

Preparations needed

In advance of the rain, the MET has urged Civil Defense, Baladiya and other concerned bodies to prepare for the weather change.

Last November, a torrential downpour wrought havoc across Qatar, causing several school and mall closures, as well as flooding at the airport and in some government buildings.

Qatar’s prime minister ordered an investigation into why the country was unprepared for chaos. However, the results of the inquiry have yet to be publicly released.
