Many residents in Qatar’s capital are rejoicing this afternoon as thunder and rain – and even hail – sweep across Doha and other parts of the country.

Rains have been falling in the northern part of Qatar intermittently over the past week, but this is only the second time in a decade that Doha has seen precipitation in September.
According to Steff Gaulter, senior meteorologist for Al Jazeera English, the last time Doha saw rain in September was 2012, at the end of the month.
Warning
The Qatar Meteorology Department (MET) has warned motorists to drive especially carefully as increasing winds are kicking up dust and leading to low visibility.

Indeed, several residents have reported strong and sudden dust storms in different parts of the country:

Are you enjoying the weekend rain? Thoughts?
a welcome change
yay for climate change 🙂
Late news, Doha news (-:
What about bad dust storm here in Dukhan? Worst than the one we had early this year.
Global Warminh
Warming*
It was rebranded as climate change.
In related news a crane collapsed in heavy rains in Mecca landing of one of the most holy mosques killing 60. Why can’t God protect his holiest site? Very disappointing.
“Why God can’t…”. May God protect us from this ignorance and blasphemy!
I’d rather he’d protect me from death in what is supposed to be his holiest place!
Blasphemy is not a crime, it’s jut people that have a different opinion to yours.
You seem to have an odd understanding of blasphemy. Clearly a non believer.
If God, in your logic, is supposed to protect humans from death, then I wonder how earth would cope with the hundreds of billions of people who would be living on it for eternity.
Just those that pray to him in his holiest of sites and children that get cancer. Is it too much to ask form him the three score years and ten he promised?
Ah ok so you want him to review his life scenario based on your suggestions? What about children born with AIDS and children sexually abused and others exploited in all types of work? Shall he get in touch with you to review together the update to “Human Life” episode 2?
Life has two sides, the bad and the good. Humans were created in it and were given the right direction, but were allowed the freedom to choose. That’s why some humans’ actions lead to prosperity for everyone and others lead to destruction to everyone. The scenario is not going to change and there will be death and life and happiness and sadness till the end of times.
More importantly, may God protect us from such ignorance!
I assume you don’t believe in evolution so he didn’t protect you from ignorance, just like he didn’t protect all those dead in Mecca. (Now 80 and rising….)
The deluded faithful will explain this away in one of two lazy, thoughtless ways:
1) This is God’s will, it is not for us, his mere creations, to question his actions…
2) God is mad because of the excessive over-commercialisation of the kaaba site and this is a sure sign of that anger.
The only connection to reality in either of these explanations is the commercialisation of Mecca, and these poor victims are victims because mostly of lax planning laws and poor health and safety supervision……many countries have cranes up in high winds that don’t just fall down like this.
I had sympathy for the 9/11/2001 victims. I don’t anymore after reading a few comments over here from the “other side”.
That’s the equivalent of someone posting “I had sympathy for the victims of Bush’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan until I read some comments such as yours”. Classy and educated. Not racist, ignorant or xenophobic at all.
Pretty unrelated actually. Am deleting this thread for purposely inflaming.
