Prime Minister of Lebanon said that Qatar is “definitely playing a major role in mediation and conflict resolution in the region”.
Speaking to Doha News on the sidelines of this year’s Doha Forum, which kicked off on Saturday, Prime Minister of Lebanon Nawaf Salam praised Qatar’s growing global role, highlighting its steady leadership in diplomacy.
“In the region and beyond, Qatar has found a vocation in mediation,” he said, noting that Doha’s credibility and consistency have positioned it as a vital broker in times of crisis.
Citing Qatar’s involvement “from Afghanistan to Darfur and Colombia,” he said Doha has consistently demonstrated its ability to broker dialogue.
Salam added that Qatar is “definitely playing a major role in mediation and conflict resolution in the region.”
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met with Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani following the opening session of the Doha Forum.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Salam underlined his determination to uphold the strongest possible ties between Beirut and Doha, voicing gratitude for Qatar’s sustained backing, especially in areas of economic recovery and diplomatic engagement.
He also commended Qatar’s continued efforts to help stabilise Lebanon and reinforce the work of its legitimate state institutions.
The theme of the Doha Forum’s current edition, held under the patronage of Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, is “Justice in Action: Beyond Promises to Progress”.
The genocide in the Gaza Strip and crisis in Sudan was among the key areas of focus in the top Qatari official’s remarks.
During the meeting with Qatar’s Amir, the Prime Minister Salam stressed the urgency of ramping up diplomatic action to push Israel to stop its attacks and withdraw from the territories it still occupies.
He urged Qatar to continue playing its crucial role in supporting these efforts and advancing international initiatives aimed at safeguarding stability in Lebanon’s south.
After meeting Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Prime Minister of Lebanon met with Qatar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
During the meeting, they discussed the topics included in the forum’s agenda, in addition to a number of topics of common interest.
