A Qatari citizen was martyred after being struck by shrapnel due to ‘military operations in the region’, says Qatar’s Ministry of Interior
Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MOI) said a Qatari citizen was martyred after a vessel carrying two individuals failed to return on schedule on Saturday, prompting an immediate search and rescue operation.
According to the ministry, the General Directorate of Coasts and Border Security flagged the vessel after it did not return at its scheduled time on Saturday, 27 June.
The Maritime Search and Rescue Team located the vessel in the early hours of Sunday, June 28. Authorities confirmed that “a Qatari citizen was martyred after sustaining injuries from shrapnel resulting from the military operations in the area.”
A second individual, an Arab resident, was injured and transferred to a hospital in stable condition.
The ministry of Interior expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished a swift recovery for the injured individual. The ministry also said that investigations and legal procedures are ongoing.
Officials have not disclosed further details regarding the circumstances of the incident or its exact location.
