Sheikh Joaan said the meetings focused on strengthening strategic partnerships and expanding cooperation in support of youth development and continental sports growth.
Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia [OCA] and President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, was received by Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, King of Malaysia, on Monday at Astana Bukit Tunku in Kuala Lumpur.
The King was accompanied by the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, according to the royal social media account.
Sheikh Joaan said the meetings focused on strengthening strategic partnerships and expanding cooperation in support of youth development and continental sports growth.
“We discussed ways to strengthen strategic partnerships and open new horizons of cooperation, in support of the aspirations of youth and the advancement of the continent,” Sheikh Joaan said in a post on Instagram.
Sheikh Joaan said he highly appreciates Malaysia’s support for the Olympic Council of Asia and that he was honoured to meet the Malaysian King, the Regent of Johor, and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Discussions between the Malaysian prime minister and the OCA delegation focused on the Olympic Council of Malaysia’s efforts and initiatives to strengthen the Olympic Movement in the country, Malaysia’s National News Agency Bernama reported.
Prime Minister Ibrahim said that efforts to strengthen the Olympic Movement in the country will continue in line with the strategic cooperation framework with the OCA.
Discussions also covered preparations for the 2029 Beach Games, Youth Games and Asian Games.
“God willing, all preparations and plans will be developed collectively with member countries under the auspices of the OCA to ensure the successful hosting of this prestigious sporting event,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday, as reported by Bernama.
Present at the meeting were also Director General of the OCA, Hussain Al-Musallam; OCA President’s Office Director Sheikh Faisal bin Ahmed Al Thani; and Ambassador of Qatar to Malaysia, Salah bin Mohammed Al-Sorour.
