Qatar has denounced the missile and drone attacks on Türkiye and Azerbaijan, urging Iran to stop the escalation, while affirming its solidarity with both nations.
Qatar has strongly condemned attempts to target Türkiye with a ballistic missile and an airport in Azerbaijan with Iranian drones, warning that the incidents represent a dangerous escalation and a violation of state sovereignty.
In a statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attacks as “hostile acts” and part of a series of reckless Iranian actions that pose a direct threat to regional security and stability.
The ministry urged Iran to immediately halt policies that expand tensions with neighbouring countries and to adhere to the principles of good neighbourliness and international law.
“The continued opening of new fronts and the widening of escalation with neighbouring states is extremely dangerous,” the ministry said, calling on Tehran to prioritise the interests of the region’s peoples and avoid further destabilisation.
The statement also affirmed Qatar’s full solidarity with both Türkiye and Azerbaijan, expressing support for any measures they take to safeguard their sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
The condemnation comes after Turkish authorities said a ballistic missile launched from Iran was intercepted by NATO air defence systems before entering Turkish airspace.
According to Turkish officials, the missile travelled across Iraqi and Syrian airspace before being destroyed over the eastern Mediterranean, with no casualties reported.
The incident marked the first time the widening regional conflict has directly threatened a NATO member state.
However, Iran denied that it had targeted Turkish territory.
In a statement reported by Iranian state media, the General Staff of the Armed Forces said the Islamic Republic “respects the sovereignty of the neighbouring and friendly country, Turkey,” and rejected claims that it had fired a missile toward Turkish territory.
Missiles and drones believed to be from Iran also struck near an airport in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
A drone struck the airport’s terminal building, and another fell near a school in the village of Shakarabad, according to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
