From checking out a Chehade Brothers concert to a Wizard of Oz show to quietly cheering on your favorite athlete at a women’s tennis tournament, there’s lots to do around town this weekend.

Chehade Brothers concert
Award-winning Palestinian-Lebanese duo The Chehade Brothers will be in town for a concert this weekend at the W Doha Hotel.
The Chehade Brothers are known for putting a twist on classical Arabic songs and play musical instruments ranging from the melodic oud, bouzok, kanoun, kamanjeh and nay to the rhythmic tabla, katem and riq.
The duo will perform at the W’s Great Room on Friday, Feb. 16 starting at 8pm. An entrance fee of QR650 per person is required and includes a four-course dinner.

Women’s tennis
Some of the best tennis players in the world are in town this week to compete in the 2017 Qatar Total Open, which opened on Monday.
The 15th edition of the tournament runs from Feb. 13 to 18 and includes former World №1 Angelique Kerber of Germany, Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska and Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia.

So far, the event has had a rough start, after Tuesday’s matches were canceled due to rainy conditions.
For those willing to take their chances, tickets are still on sale for the tournament, which is being held at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex. They start at QR25 and go up to QR350 per person.
Wizard of Oz show
Head to Katara’s souq-themed recreational area Magical Festival Village for a Wizard of Oz show this weekend. The shows start tomorrow, Feb. 16 and run through Monday, Feb. 20.
It will take place at the festival’s Teatro, located on Katara’s beachfront.
Shows will be held from 7pm to 9pm. Organizers have said that the show will feature a virtual 3D display, but no special glasses will be needed.

Karting and mini moto
This weekend, Losail Sports Club will offer 15-minute karting sessions from 5 to 10pm on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 16 and 17.
The sessions are open to anyone over the age of 15, but those under 18 years old will need a signed permission form from a legal guardian.
Tickets cost QR100 per karting session and are available at the venue. An additional non-refundable QR15 is required to purchase a helmet mask.
Participants interested in mini moto (which also runs on a separate track from 5pm to 10pm) should bring their own bikes and safety equipment.
This is the last time in February that the sessions will be held. They will return starting March 2. More information can be found on the club’s website.
Extreme desert show
Local eco-tourism company 365 Adventures Qatar is hosting an afternoon of dune-bashing, sunset watching and food this Friday between 1:30pm and 6:30pm.
The event will take place at both Sealine and Khor Al Udayd (inland sea), and will feature three hours of dune-bashing, a 30-minute “extreme desert show” and optional swimming.
Tickets cost QR170 per person if paid in cash and QR160 if paid online. For children between the ages of five and 12, tickets cost QR150, and QR100 for children under five years old.

QPO concert
On Friday, Feb. 17, the Qatar Philharmonic will play Beethoven’s first Piano Concerto at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC).
The concert will be conducted by Dmitrij Kitajenko, and starts at 7:30pm, although seating takes place 20 minutes earlier. Children below the age of six will not be allowed in the opera house.

- Career guidance seminar: The Qatar Career Development Center is hosting a seminar on Thursday, Feb. 16 that features career guidance experts who will be available for networking and answering questions on career-planning, development strategies, implementation of education and employment. The seminar is free and open to all and will run from 9am to 11am at Education City’s HBKU Student Center.
