Expats comprised 94 percent of the working population in Qatar last year, meaning there were 16 expat workers for every Qatari one, states a report released by the Qatar Statistics Authority.
The numbers demonstrate Qatar’s growing dependence on imported labor, despite its efforts to nationalize jobs in the private sector.Â
As mentioned earlier this week, the report also stated that women in Qatar are paid 25 to 50 percent less than men.
Other fun facts in the report include:
- Domestic workers now account for 10 percent of the labor force, a significant rise from 6.4 percent in 2009.
- About half of the entire labour force in Qatar is working in construction and trading activities.
- Qataris comprise .5 percent of the jobs in the private sector.
- About 71 percent of the labor force is centred in Doha and Al Rayyan.
