81.8% of QT poll respondents said they had noticed a rise in the cost of living in Qatar in the past year.

It’s not all in their heads. According to figures from the Qatar Statistics Authority, the country has indeed become a more expensive place to live.

This is in large part due to rising rental and food prices, which went up 5.1 percent and 4.2 percent from December 2010 to December 2011, respectively.

Interestingly, Qatar Today reports that the cost of living would be even higher if not for the government’s attempts to regulate prices of certain foodstuffs. Read the magazine’s full story here.
