Qatar’s Corniche to be closed for two hours during Saudi king’s visit

Qatar prepares to welcome Saudi King.

The Corniche will be closed from noon to 2pm tomorrow (Monday), Dec. 5 to mark an official visit from King Salman of Saudi Arabia.

According to I Love Qatar, celebrations will be held during this time that are open to the public. There will be a dhow show, stallions on display and cultural performances. Refreshments will also be distributed.

Commuters have been complaining about Corniche blockages over the past few days. This appears to be due to rehearsals for tomorrow’s events.

Two-day visit

King Salman will be in Doha for two days, as a part of a regional tour around the Gulf.

This is his first such tour since assuming power after the death of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al Saud in January 2015.

According to QNA, cooperation between Qatar and Saudi is stronger than ever.

Over the past year, the two neighbors have been working together on military operations in Yemen and fostering greater trade and tourism ties.

The relationship between the countries hit a stumbling block in 2014, after Saudi, the UAE and Bahrain withdrew their ambassadors from Qatar.

The conflict appeared to be due to political differences but was resolved the following year.
