The award winning airline plans on testing the mobile app in order to ensure the safety of air travel in a new partnership with the IATA.
As a part of their partnership with the International Air Travel Association (IATA), Qatar Airways is set on becoming the first airline in the Middle East to trial the new Travel Pass “Digital Passport” mobile application.
The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly transformed the nature of travel, as airlines across the world adapt to ensure the safety fo their passengers.
The new application aligns greatly with Qatar Airways’ vision around seamless, secure, and more contactless travel. It plans to begin the first trial of the application on the Doha to Istanbul route by March.

The application will allow travellers to check COVID test results, verify their eligibility to travel and share their eligibility status with with the airline and other stakeholders – even before stepping foot into the airport.
It will also allow travellers to access testing and vaccine credentials, and will provide COVID related information and updates about destinations and their government entry requirements in order to help travellers prepare in advance before their arrival.
“The IATA Travel Pass effectively acts as a ‘digital passport’ for travellers and is the latest tool in our fight against the spread of COVID-19, enabling passengers to securely and effortlessly navigate their travel plans, safe in the knowledge that their verified travel credential is based on the latest COVID-19 information, the strictest data privacy regulations and entry rules for the destination they will travel to,” said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker.
The application, according to Al Baker, will help restore and strengthen confidence in air travel as it makes the slow return to its pre-pandemic operation.
Qatar Airways has also made strides, as it was named the first global airline in the world to achieve the prestigious 5-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating by international air transport rating organisation, Skytrax.
Hamad International Airport also saw success, becoming first airport in the Middle East and Asia to be awarded a Skytrax 5-Star COVID-19 Airport Safety Rating.
The airline plans to rebuild its network to 130 destinations by the end of March.
