The US head of Cornell University has weighed in on a debate about labor practices in Qatar, saying working conditions on its Doha-based campus “reflect the university’s high standards as a progressive employer,” according to the Cornell Daily Sun.
Students in New York had asked for a list of all the names and positions of third-party contractors employed at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, details on the process used to hire them and specific worker protections stipulated in its contracts, among other information. But Cornell Provost and acting president Michael Kotlikoff declined to name the contractors, citing “business confidentiality concerns,” according to the Sun.
