Following a spate of reports about valuables being stolen from cars around Doha, the Criminal Investigation Department has arrested two men on suspicion of the thefts.
According to the Ministry of Interior, CID has been getting an increasing number of complaints about cars being broken into, and cash and other goods taken. In a statement, the MOI continued:
“The suspects would follow the cars of their victims and once they stop their car the duo would smash the windshields, steal money and other valuables and flee from the scene.
During the intensified patrols around places where the duo were suspected, one of them was identified and caught who gave details that led to the arrest of the his companion.”
The statement added that the men – described as Arab – confessed to the crime, and that cash and tools that could have been used in the robberies were found at the men’s residence.
Other thefts
To cut down on these types of crimes, residents are reminded not to leave valuables in their cars, a common practice due to Qatar’s relatively low crime rate.
But as the population grows, thefts and other crimes have been increasing here. In the past few weeks, the MOI has reported the arrest of a six-member group who are facing robbery and other charges.
Six women have also been arrested recently on burglary charges following a rash of home break-ins.
